Passport lost or stolen in Vietnam
Passport is a valuable document that should be kept in a safe place at all times. Once a passport has been reported lost or stolen, it is no longer valid and cannot be used for travel. You may get difficulties with your stay and exit if you lost your visa and passport during your trip in Vietnam.
Like other countries, Vietnam authorities may consider a serious problem once finding out you without passport. Thus, foreigners are advised to immediately contact the local police to report the incident then contact with the country’s embassy in Vietnam to renew the passport. In case there is no country’s embassy in Vietnam then come directly to the Vietnam Immigration Department in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Danang for the solution.
As soon as having your passport renewed, please collect following documents (original) and contact us to process the exit visa:
- Your passport
- The report on the lost of exit and entry visa (certified by local police)
- The diplomatic note of the your country's embassy or consulate
- Your air ticket
The travellers are advised to take care their passport and Vietnam visa carefully. If you have had many passports reported lost or stolen, you may face some restrictions when applying a new passport. For example, you may be asked to provide proof of travel before a new passport issued or limitations on passport's validity will be placed.
From a security perspective, there is no difference between lost and stolen passports. In both cases, it can be used could be used for fraudulent purposes and your stay in Vietnam without visa and passport may be considered as a breach of law activity.
